Baby out for a stroll. What is sweeter to look at than a little child laughing in their prettily decked-out pram? Some mothers who love soft colours trim the pram in pink or pale blue. A quilted blanket and pillow are matched to these light, delicate shades. However, those who prefer to be practical choose darker tones for the blanket, in navy or brown wool fabric, to match the pram's colour. Here we give two blanket designs that can be worked up differently. THE FIRST DESIGN, in silk padded with wool fleece, in pink or light blue, is trimmed with flowers embroidered in contrasting tones: white or pink on pink, pink on pale blue, and so on. A wide embroidered scallop stitch in the chosen colour forms the border. Pillow A, in fine linen in the same colour, is brightened with the same embroidery, echoed again on hot-water bottle cover B. THE SECOND DESIGN is made of sheeting lined with wool fleece, quilted in scallops then padded. The border is made from a strip stitched on the wrong side then turned right side out. On this cosy blanket, birds and stylised clouds are drawn using hand or machine stitching, and the same stitches also trim the scalloped border. Bottle holder C, in silk fabric or light wool fabric, lined with wool fleece, is decorated with matching designs and the same quilting work.
