Several ages, several styles. Nowadays, girls of all ages most often go out bare-headed. However, there are dressy occasions when a hat is needed. You'll enjoy making these lovely styles yourself. 1. Bonnet-style HAT with ties, for a little girl. Made of wool fabric and trimmed with velvet or silk. The reduced pattern diagram above will help you cut the shape out of buckram or light cardboard; it includes the crown and the brim in two parts. The crown, assembled following figure 1, is covered with wool fabric before the brim — also covered in wool fabric — is attached, then trimmed with an inset of contrasting fabric to match the ties knotted under the chin. 2. This BERET, in felt or wool fabric, is made of a crown and a headband, whose patterns are given as half-patterns. The headband and crown, joined together, are fixed onto a strip of buckram covered with ribbon that forms the head circumference. 3. This close-fitting BONNET is simple in shape: a round crown is mounted onto a band forming the head circumference. However, since this band is shaped, it's best made in two parts, with the back piece added, as shown in the diagram. It's important to cut this band on the bias, so it follows the shape of the head better. Make this hat in felt or heavy wool fabric, finishing it with a large flat bow placed at the front.
